Eliseo, Me Voy!

Standard

Since Mom fractured her hip 6 weeks ago, she’s only left the house a couple of times. This morning we headed out for a doctor’s appointment. As she maneuvered her scooter through the doorway to the garage, someone stepped out of the service elevator. Slowly Mom turned her head over her right shoulder to find Eliseo, one of the building maintenance guys. “Eliseo, my voy,” she called after him. “Tengo una cita con el doctor.” I know Eliseo noticed us and chose to continue walking and going about his work. When Mom called after him, he changed course. Eliseo is a good person; he knows that when a 72 year-old resident requests his attention, he drops what he’s doing to acknowledge her. I, of course, make eye contact with Eliseo and begin to roll my eyes as Mom chats generously. Eliseo is a better person than I am.
